'Get StudySmart!' is a quarter, half or full-day workshop for pupils in Y6-Y13.
It is a motivational study-booster session (or sessions depending on your requirements), ideal for the beginning of a term or prior to scholarship, CE or other examinations.
Based on two years' research into study and study skills, the session helps pupils get their heads round what ‘study’ is and fires them up to do their best. It is possible to run the session for a whole year group or smaller groups depending on your needs.
Recent sessions designed with a school included working with all of 6th form in the morning, their tutors in the afternoon and their parents in the evening.
"I felt very involved. I think as a result of this I can concentrate better. I am very glad you came to our school."
"I found it mind-boggling. I learned a lot today, definitely and am looking forward to try and tackle some work with these new revision tactics."
"I came here today scared of exams and shaky. I came out with being happy going into any exam. Thank you!"
Parents and pupils (Y6):
“David enabled both adults and pupils to gain insight into new methods of studying. The parents left the session with new ideas on how they could support their child and our pupils left the sessions as more confident students. Staff were later delighted to see the pupils’ new attitude permeate lessons as pupils demonstrated their new found confidence.”

Ready Study Go! is a study skills course in 16 lessons or 9-13 yr olds based on the adventures of the 'Magical Mansion Gang'. Jo Bowden, Thinking for Learning, Northumberland writes:
“David Thomson brings to the already well-trodden path of study skills a sense of imagination, thought, care and attention to detail. He has provided a journey that travels through the areas of understanding, diverse learning styles and our affective relationship with study instead of the more usual skills-type approach.
